Yesterday Charlie went to visit Maggie

Yesterday Charlie and I went to visit our friends, Erica and Maggie. Maggies sure was happy to see Charlie. They ran around the house and jumped all over each other. However Charlie got just a little to excited and tried to hump Maggie. He's six months old and starting already. I have to get him fixed soon.
I put Charlie on my lap until he settled done but everytime I put him down he got all excited again and tried humping her again. It was kind of funny because Maggie is twice the size of Charlie.

Charlie has an upset tummy today.

I guess it's true puppies are just like babies. They like to put things in their mouth and sometimes they eat stuff they're not suppose to. Charlie has an upset tummy today. He's horked up a couple of fluff balls. He also has a case of the shivers. I tucked him in his bed wrapped in a blanket where he had a nice nap. Oh now he's
chewing on my sock. I guess maybe he's feeling better.

Be a responible dog owner and clean up your dog's poop.

Busy Sunday

Today was a busy day for Charlie. Michelle phoned to see what we were doing and asked if we would like to go out somewhere. And of course we said yes. So Waffle,Keada and Michelle came to pick us up. First we went to check out a dog park, out near Cultus Lake,we hadn't been to before. Charlie had a lot of fun. I let him off the leash. He just loved that. He ran and ran around with Waffle. I thought for sure he would be pooped out after that but nope he had lots more energy.
After we finished at the dog park we got back in the car and headed east. We didn't feel like going home so we decided to take a drive out to Bridal Falls. It was a bit rainy and a little colder than it was at home in Chilliwack. Despite the cold we decided to take the hike up to the falls. Charlie always surprises me. He hiked up that trail just like the little trooper he is. And then we hiked back down the trail. Charlie was so full of energy. We then head back home to visit at Michelle's house. Charlie did have a little nap while we were there after he played with Waffle and Keada some more. Then it was time to get home. As you can guess Charlie worked up quite the appetite while we were so needless to say he was ready for dinner when we walked in the door.He gobbled up his food and then it was time for a nap. And he is still napping. I think he's pretty much done for the night.
Charlie has a booster seat like this one but a different brand. He sure likes it.

A Sunny Day

The sun was shining today and Charlie had some extra energy so I decided we should go out and enjoy it. When the sun shines around here you should get out because you just don't know when it's going to shine again. We went to the dog park. And we weren't the only ones there this time. It seemed like everybody and their dog was there.  Charlie actually had fun at the park today. He doesn't usually enjoy it so much because the park is right next to an armary where the police and corrections practice their shooting. It sure gets loud sometimes. Luckily they finished their shooting shortly after we got there today.
The dog park is a very social place for both man and dog. There was a lady there today that had a little black chihuahua. His name was Tony. He was a year and half old and smaller than Charlie, wieghing 4 pounds. Charlie had fun playing and running around with him. I had a nice visit with Tony's mom. There was actually several little ones in the park today so Charlie got to sniff quite a few bums.  There were some pretty big dogs at the park today too. Some of them so big they could eat poor Charlie all in one bite.  Charlie eventually got tired of playing and sat on my lap. That would have been ok however he got a little big growlly with one big dog who came up to say hello. It was kind of funny since Charlie is only 5 months old and weighs six pounds while the other dog was 8 months old and weighed about ten times as much as Charlie.
Charlie was so tired when we got home that he went to bed for a nap and he's being napping ever since and now it's bedtime.  Charlie slept with me last night and the night before with no messes.
Well good night world we're off to bed.

Monday 11 April 2011

Today Charlie and I took a drive to Abbotsford, a nearby city, to pick up my daughter from work. He seems to like his booster seat. Charlie started whining when we got to my daughter's work and parked. He's made a fuss like that before. He doesn't like it when I leave him in the car.  Oh well. My daughter had to get dog food for Waffle and Keada so we stopped at the pet store and yes Charlie came in with us. There sure was a lot to see and smell for him.
From the pet store we went to drop my daughter off at home so she could start making dinner for us and went to pick up my other daughter from work. Charlie knows both of the girls by name. I tell him to watch for them and he does then gets all excited when they come to the car.
My girls are Michelle and Pearl. Pearl lives with me while Michelle lives with Waffle and Keada.
We went back to Michelle's for dinner and a visit. Charlie loves to play with Waffle and Keada.  And of course you know they like to play right at your feet. Charlie likes to rough house with the bigger dogs but at the same tiime he's pretty smart, he stays close to me so he can hide behind my legs so he doesn't get squashed.  Don't worry the bigger dogs are careful and haven't hurt him yet. Oh ya have I mentioned that Waffle and Keada are pit bulls and are not anything like society says they are. These dogs are big old lap dogs.

Sunday 10 April 2011

I bought Charlie a boaster seat yesterday so I had to take him for a car ride today to check it out. At first he tried to jump out of it but soon settled in for a nap. It's high enough so that he can seat and look out the window. He sure likes the car. All I have to do is ask him if he wants to go for ride in the car and he gets all happy.
Charlie has been doing really good on his potty training this week. He's had three dry nights in a row. Just wish he'd figure out a way to tell me when he has to pee during the day so he won't go in the house at all. He did go in his pen today and whine a bit. I was sitting in the livingroom and went to see where he was. I took him out and he did his business. Good job Charlie.

Thursday 7 April 2011

I was turning 50 and decided to do something special for myself. I had wanted a pet of my own for quite sometime so decided that my birthday was a great time to get myself one. I orginally wanted a pug however I changed my mind about the pug for two reasons. The first reason was because I thought that I would adopt a pug through a pet rescue place rather than risking getting one from a puppy mill. However I found that process to be extremely difficult. The rescue places I looked at wanted to know way to much information about my personal life. Which I think is uncalled for as I was adopting a dog not a baby for heavens sake. Secondly I did some research on pugs and found that they are an extremely high maintanence dog to look after and I don't put that much effort into myself never mind a dog. I'm not saying I'll never get a pug just that this wasn't the time.
So I continued my search for that perfect puppy. I couldn't believe I was looking for a puppy because I'd decide long ago that it would be better to get an older dog that was already trained. Anyhow that theory went out the window all together when I saw a picture of Charlie, who was at that time called Pugsly, on line. I fell for Charlie right away and had to find out if he was still avaliable. Lucky for me he was.
At the same time I did some research on Chihuahuas to see what I was potenially getting myself into. This is what I found.  http://www.squidoo.com/chihuahua-the-small-dog.
  Now for the continuing story.
Yesterday my Charlie gave me almost gave me a heartattck. I was sitting doing some paper work when he started barking. I opened the door to see what he was barking at and he got out. The first time he's being outside without a leash on and well you guessed it, he took off running. And he ran and ran. I thought that he would never stop. We live on acreage, the house is right near the road and there are no fences. I was afraid that he might run into the road. Luckily he ran the other way. Another fear was the hungry eagles around here. He is quite small a great snack for a hungry eagle to swoop down and snatch up. I know the suspense is killing you so I put an end to your misery. Charlie stopped to take a poop and decided he'd let me catch him. Actually he did his business and walked up to me so I just scooped him up.

Today was a nice sunny day so we took advantage of the sun and went for a walk in the park. Charlie had a great time running around, on leash, visiting the other dogs. He stopped to visit a few dogs actually. At first he was a little nervous but got over it. I think he loved the idea of seeing dogs his own size.
I was warned by a couple of fellow dog walkers to be careful about the hungry eagles at the park. They have already swooped down and grabbed a couple of dogs.  Like I said before Charlie would make a nice snack for a hungry eagle.

Charlie likes to catch flies. I think he must have been a hunter in a previous life. He definitely has the potential to catch something.
I guess you've gathered from my ramblings that I'm really enjoying Charlie. He is a very smart dog that learns quickly.
Stay tuned for more.
